Magnet Compliance Certification: RoHS, REACh, and Conflict-Free Minerals

Many customers (especially exporters and supply-chain manufacturers) require magnet suppliers to provide RoHS, REACh, conflict-free minerals, and other compliance documents when ordering. This article explains what each of these regulations is and which declarations AHL can provide.

RoHS: Restriction of Hazardous Substances

RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) limits the content of specific hazardous substances in electrical and electronic products, including lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, and brominated flame retardants such as PBB and PBDE (later versions also add phthalates). RoHS compliance means these restricted substances in the product are below the specified thresholds.

REACh: Chemical registration and substances of very high concern

REACh is the EU's chemical management regulation, one focus of which is the Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) list. Suppliers must disclose whether their products contain substances on the list and their proportions, helping downstream manufacturers assess and report.

Conflict-free minerals (RMI / 3TG)

Conflict-free minerals means not using minerals from conflict regions that may fund armed conflict. The regulated minerals are collectively called 3TG: Tin, Tungsten, Tantalum, and Gold. Supply chains typically report their sources using the CMRT (Conflict Minerals Reporting Template). AHL's NdFeB magnets contain no 3TG, and we can provide the relevant declaration.

Heavy-Rare-Earth-Free Compliant Export

In response to China's 2025 export controls on heavy rare earths, AHL has established a heavy-rare-earth-free (48SH and below, free of dysprosium (Dy) and terbium (Tb)) compliant export channel: shipment is possible after a report is issued by a China-Customs-designated inspection agency and the compliance procedure is passed, with a lead time of about 90–120 days.
